A BIT ABOUT THERAPY

What's this #selfcare everyone is talking about?

Due to current times most people are in a new state of heightened mental health awareness.  Anxiety being more prominent in this world of uncertainty, grief for the life we previously had.  Depression from lack of social engagement and physical activity.  Lacking feelings of cultural competency or checking of our biases and privilege.  There's also those of us that are using this time to reflect and honoring the idea that we need change.  Out of all the reasons we seek therapy my favorite reason is because your simply ready!

According to the American Psychological Association, “Psychologists help people of all ages live happier, healthier and more productive lives.”  Therapy is your place to take care of yourself.  So if your ready to plant your seeds of change and happiness I am here to show you the sun, praise the rain, and provide you the nutrients/ necessary tools.

"For a seed to achieve its greatest expression, it must come completely undone.  The shell cracks, its insides come out, and everything changes.  To someone who doesn't understand growth, it would look like complete destruction."

SERVICES I OFFER

Session rates range from $135 for individuals to $160 for Couples and Families if paying out of pocket.

As a licensed marriage and family therapist I take a systemic approach to my work.  This means I believe the struggles that we experience as individuals are results of larger issues within or lives and environment that create a domino effect.  I also believe it is impossible to sustain change if you only focus on the individual.  Therefore our change is reactive to how others receive said change and how prepared or equipped we are to challenge that system in which we live.

FAMILY THERAPY

Here For You

There is a lot that can happen in a family.  Simple transitions, attempting co- parenting, needing communication skills for confusing teens, processing a loss, or unpacking family patterns are just a few.  Family therapy can help build a strong foundation of positive relationship skills for each member to carry with them throughout life and into every other system they enter.

KARA FLEMING

Who the heck am I?

My name is Kara Fleming.  I realize professional titles, clinical jargon, and years of experience is how most therapists sell themselves, but I am not most therapists.  I have learned in my 30 years on this planet (yes I just leaked my age) that people just need to feel understood before they can achieve their next level of happiness.  So I am not going to boast about my GPA in grad school, give you terms that only other therapists know, or review all my job history because I realize you don't actually care (and why should you?)  Most likely what is helpful to you is a bit about me as a person... like a real person.  Let's be serious a part of you is already saying how is this 30 year old going to relate to me?  Well here it goes...

I am a middle child, one of 3 girls

My parents legally separated when I was in high school at which time I was "placed" in therapy

I HATED therapy...

I studied abroad eating my way through Italy and found passion in diversity and art

I attended Le Moyne College and Syracuse University to feel as connected to community as possible

I married my high school sweetheart after dating for a decade

I attempted to create a family

I actively worked through the ending of a marriage and loss of a family

I found an amazing therapist that I'm obsessed with and still see to this day (practice what you preach!)

I completed a 200 hour yoga teacher training after using Yoga as primary coping skill for years

I have traveled to more than 10 different countries

Most importantly I am now pursuing my dream of private practice.

Now no two people are the same, nor are experiences, but rest assured that you can and will get through what is going on in your life because you hold the power to be the change you want to see.  I leveled up, are you ready to join?

WHAT TO EXPECT

If you believe I am a good therapeutic match for you based off this website and an initial consultation, I will send you a link to join my client portal.  Here you will be able to review and electronically sign all intake documents, as well as provide me with necessary background information.  I believe this to be an important step to show your readiness for the therapeutic process. By utilizing this format I am also able to gather some basic information about you as well as provide you with necessary information about my practice before we even meet.  This will allow you, my client, to get right into some of the details about your real needs in your first session.  Yes, we will revisit information you put in the intake documents, it has real value, but I feel your first session should be all about what you want to tell me!  Why charge you for a two hour long intake when you can complete an “hour” of it at home, at your leisure, and for free?!  Lastly because I truly appreciate your time, I also utilize this client portal as a means for billing.  What that translates to for you; we never have to spend your valued session minutes talking about fee of service or collecting of said fee!  Your securely saved credit card, HSA, or FSA will automatically be charged the same day of service unless other arrangements are made.  I understand investing your time and money into therapy is a large commitment, but I want you to know I value both!

Due to the current culture I have made myself available for telehealth services.  This means I use a secure internet platform to hold video sessions for all clients with internet accessibility.  Virtual sessions are not only a great option for staying safe, but also provide some comfort to those new to therapy and nervous about seeking help in "public." Note: Teletherapy services are limited to those living in state of NY per licensing restrictions.

If virtual sessions do not work for you, I am available for in- person sessions. In person services will be offered in my village of Liverpool office.

TAKING CARE OF (YOUR) BUSINESS

Private pay vs. Insurance

I believe you should dictate how you handle your mental health services so here's the scoop. Insurance companies require a diagnosis, oversee your medical records, and sometimes stipulate the number of "covered" therapy sessions.  However if you are okay with all of the above, insurance may be a nice option for you.  I accept Atena, Cigna, Oscar, Oxford, and United Health Care at this time.   If you are not comfortable with the above and wish to keep things more private, private pay out of pocket is always an option.  Lastly I am able to accommodate out of network.  This mean upon your request, I can provide you with a superbill.  A superbill is a document in which you can submit to your insurance company for partial or sometimes full reimbursement dependent upon your specific "out of network" benefits.  This works well to limit insurance providers involvement, while also putting some money back in your pocket.  As previously stated, all billing information will be collected through your client portal, accepted forms of payment include; credit/ debit card, HSA, or FSA accounts.
